Korean actress Kim Sae-ron has been found dead at the age of 24. According to local authorities, a friend discovered her at her residence in Seoul’s Seongsu-dong district around 4:55 PM (KST) on Sunday.
Police have stated that there is no evidence of foul play, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of death.
Born in Seoul in 2000, Kim Sae-ron began her acting career as a child and quickly gained recognition as one of South Korea’s most promising young talents. She made her breakthrough in the 2009 film A Brand New Life, which earned international acclaim and was featured at the Cannes Film Festival.
Kim further solidified her reputation with her role in The Man from Nowhere (2010), South Korea’s highest-grossing film that year. She continued to impress audiences with performances in The Neighbour (2012), A Girl at My Door (2014), and the fantasy drama Mirror of the Witch (2016).
Despite a flourishing career, Kim largely stepped away from the public eye in 2022 following a drunk driving incident. She was fined 20 million won (£11,000) in April 2023 for the offense. The controversy led to significant professional setbacks, including the reduction of her role in Netflix’s 2023 Korean drama Bloodhounds.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her passing. Fans and colleagues have expressed shock and sadness, remembering her as a talented actress who left a lasting impact on the South Korean film industry.
